Our names are Lexi Marchetti and Katie McAvoy (left to right). We are the proud founders of Cultivating Women Leaders. We are both in Grade 12 attending different high schools in Mississauga.

We have known each other since grade school, and have always shared the same passion for leadership and community engagement. We began collaborating on how we could bring Cultivating Women Leaders to life as a means to celebrate the contributions of women and advance gender equality through diversity and inclusion.

In March 2019, we will be hosting our 2nd Annual Cultivating Women Leaders Speakers Forum in Mississauga.

We look forward to seeing you there.

200 Teen Leaders to Gather at Cawthra Park Secondary in celebration of International Women’s Day Speaker Forum

Mississauga, March 2019 – On March 6’19, 250 teen leaders will gather at Cawthra Park Secondary School in celebration of International Women’s Day. The message of the 2nd Annual Cultivating Women Leaders Forum is simple; it is important to Cultivate more Women Leaders. The event was inspired by a weekend long case conference that both Katie McAvoy and Lexi Marchetti attended at Queen’s University in 2017. Although Lexi and Katie attend different high schools in Mississauga, these two trailblazers -- one being a competitive hockey player, and the other a competitive dancer, joined forces and founded this Forum. This year will mark the second annual Speakers Forum. They have been successful in gaining the support of their respective Principals, as well as corporate partners such as RBC, PCL Construction, and Cotton Candy Promotional Products. Students in Grade 9 through 12 at both Cawthra Park Secondary School and St. Martin Secondary School are encouraged to attend.

Cultivating Women Leaders aims to celebrate the contributions of a diverse selection of women as well as support the call to action to support women’s rights and advance gender equality through diversity and inclusion. The Forum will expose young women to a wide range of business careers, female role models, and business leaders who are passionate about their industries.

The Forum will also shine a light on the importance and growing movement for women to participate equally in society and above all, to believe in themselves.

This year’s speakers include Olympian and founder of The Believe Initiative, Sarah Wells ii) Executive VP of Sales at Evanov Radio, Ky Joseph, and iii) Vice-President Employee Relations at RBC, Teri Dennis-Davies. “I am excited about our 2nd Annual “Cultivating Women Leaders 2019” event said Katie McAvoy. “By showcasing some terrific female role models, my hope is that we are successful in inspiring young women to pursue a career in business.

“My hope is that young girls will walk away from this Forum with increased confidence, and that they will set high goals for themselves knowing that these role models have helped to blaze a trail for them”, Lexi Marchetti adds. Both Lexi and Katie are looking forward to the second annual Speakers Forum, and are excited to welcome attendees there.
